What it contains

Bulletin No. 92 summarizes the second quarter of 2026 of the Dominican Pension System (SDP). The Superintendency of Pensions explains that, since the first quarter of 2026, it has reorganized its periodic publications: the first- and third-quarter bulletins become eminently statistical, and this one, for the second quarter, includes news and articles of interest. It gathers affiliations and contributions, benefits, the financial situation of the pension fund administrators (AFP) and the funds’ investments, with the international and national environment, an analysis of the system, 49 pages of statistical tables, pension regulations and a glossary.

In the analysis of the system, the assets of the individual capitalization funds reached RD$1.32 trillion at the end of the first half of 2026, 79.4 % of the funds under management. AFP Popular leads with 33.4 %, followed by Crecer (23.5 %), Siembra (21.8 %) and Reservas (17.4 %). The historical nominal return stood at around 7.8 %, slowing but above observed inflation, and assets grow 63 % through contributions and 37 % through returns. The share of public instruments in portfolios fell from about 83 % in 2022 to 70 % in 2026, while the private sector rose from 17 % to nearly 30 %. Members grew 4.37 % year on year (237,930 people) and contributors 4.0 % (89,571).

The bulletin adds coverage and longevity-risk data. 88.8 % of contributors earn three minimum contribution wages or less, 57 % of members are under 45, and accumulated disability pensions (19,803) and survivor pensions (18,580) keep rising. An article of interest, which expresses its author’s opinion, argues that the fall in births, now close to two children per woman, also affects an individual capitalization system because it moderates the growth of the contributions that finance the solidarity mechanisms. The national environment includes IMAE growth of 6.4 % year on year in June and inflation of 5.67 %.

Why it matters for risk management

Pensions are one of the country’s largest institutional investors, and their portfolio links retirement savings with credit, the securities market and public debt. For those who manage market, liquidity or concentration risk, or design products for the capital market, the bulletin offers official figures on the demand for instruments. It is a statistical bulletin: the articles of interest express their authors’ opinions and not the Superintendency’s position, and the data cover the first half of 2026.
