Biography

with more than 15 years of successful experience in Banking and the Financial Sector, leading strategic areas such as Business Intelligence, Credit Risk & Portfolio Management, Management Control, Analytics, Regulatory Risk and Sustainable Finance.

Throughout his career he has played a key role in implementing IFRS 9 and Basel III at various financial institutions, as well as in developing advanced risk and credit management models. In recent years he has led multiple projects focused on integrating ESG factors into credit management, contributing to the evolution of sustainable practices within the financial sector.

He has solid experience in administering and managing high-volume credit portfolios, with an approach based on financial analysis, statistical modeling, data management and advanced analytics for strategic decision-making. He is also a member of GARP (Global Association of Risk Professionals) and holds the Sustainability and Credit Risk (SCR) certification, one of the most prestigious in the world at the intersection of sustainability and credit risk.

In the academic field, he has been an active speaker at high-level international seminars, teaching courses and giving lectures on topics such as Portfolio Management, Asset Allocation, Econometrics and ESG Investments, among others. His commitment to training and knowledge development has led him to collaborate with various specialized institutions and forums, consolidating his reputation as an expert in risk management and sustainable finance.

Biography

Specialized in integrating environmental, social and climate risks into strategy, corporate governance and business decision-making.

Javier is a Business Administrator from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, a Finance Specialist from the Universidad EAFIT, and holds an MBA from Brandeis University (United States). He complements his education with studies such as Green Energy Finance Specialist (GEFS) from the Renewables Academy (RENAC), Germany.

He has taken part in technical teams that have provided technical assistance to financial and business entities in Colombia, Mexico and Peru in designing and implementing climate risk management frameworks aligned with IFRS S2, contributing to strengthening governance and risk management.

He also taught the module on climate risks and their impact on the financial sector, as part of a training program led by BDO Colombia for Asobancaria and the Financial Superintendency of Colombia.

He also collaborated with the Sustainability team of Scotiabank’s subsidiary in Colombia in designing the implementation plan for a new regulation on ESG and climate disclosure for securities issuers. He also led the development of the Sustainable Financing and Environmental, Social and Climate Risk Management Policy, setting guidelines for identifying, assessing and managing these risks within the institution.

As a speaker, he has been invited to specialized regional forums, such as Fintech Americas, where he addressed the main challenges and opportunities of climate change for the financial system in the region.

With 19+ years leading strategic Corporate Sustainability areas and projects and ESG+EF criteria (environmental, social, governance, economic and financial) at 50+ companies, I help organizations turn risks into opportunities, generate measurable impact on people, businesses and communities, and meet the highest international management and reporting standards: GRI, SASB, IFRS ISSB, EFRAG, TCFD, TNFD, S&P ESG DJSI, ISAE3000, ISSA 5000, SDGs and Supersociedades and Superfinanciera requirements.

My focus: Double materiality analysis, management of ESG impacts, risks and opportunities, corporate strategy, sustainability reporting, integrated reporting and financial performance, with leadership of multicultural teams and a focus on tangible results.

Authority and credibility: member of the executive committees of Grupo Reporte Integrado LATAM and of the Sustainability Standards Technical Table of the Technical Council of Public Accounting, the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Finance. Tenured lecturer in sustainability and ESG at the Universidad Externado, Universidad Javeriana and Universidad de Antioquia.

She has more than 20 years of professional experience in consulting services in internal audit, risk management, internal control, governance, compliance, anti-money laundering, process management and deal advisory.

She holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and a Master’s in Corporate Finance. She also holds professional certifications that attest to her competence, such as Anti-Money Laundering Certified Associate (AMLCA), awarded by FIBA/FIU; ISO 31000 Risk Manager and Governance, as well as BASC International Auditor.

She combines her professional work with teaching at the BDO Business School.
