Bank\u2019s (IDB) Latin American and Caribbean Macroeconomic Report 2026, by Jo\u00e3o Ayres and Luciana Juvenal and published on 3 March 2026, argues that the region is at a crossroads: resilience has been preserved, but productivity and investment constraints continue to restrict growth. It expects the region to grow 2.2% in 2025 and 2.1% in 2026, in line with its long-term average, in a global environment with world growth of 2.9% in 2025 and 2.8% in 2026, geopolitical tensions, changing trade policies and persistently high global interest rates.<\/p><p>Three forces shape the macroeconomic path: the global push towards decarbonization, digitalization and artificial intelligence, which raises demand for critical minerals and opens an opportunity for investment, exports and productivity if institutions and governance allow it; macro-financial conditions, with tightening global financial conditions, shifts in risk perception and the growing role of digital financial instruments, including foreign currency-linked assets; and high interest costs, which limit fiscal and external positions.<\/p><p>The chapters cover critical minerals, the transmission of changes in global risk aversion to the region through financial markets, exchange rates and commodity prices (with asymmetric effects that are stronger in commodity exporters and economies with weaker frameworks), fiscal policy and the limited fiscal space at high rates, monetary policy after disinflation, and external accounts, with the return of current account deficits and financing vulnerabilities. It concludes that preserving resilience requires credible macroeconomic frameworks, rebuilding policy buffers and advancing structural reforms.<\/p>\n<section class=\"cgp-importa\"><h3>Why it matters for risk management<\/h3><p>It gives the regional macroeconomic context for stress scenarios, risk appetite and portfolio projections: growth, cost of debt, exchange rates and external conditions.
